Indeed, and this is what my time control version of the test showed (see my first post above). The real version with pruning/reductions enabled was much stronger. Missing or delaying those good moves that exist in the full-width tree is very much outweighed by pruning and reducing the great number of truly bad moves in the tree.bob wrote:
Correct. Otherwise LMR will "cost" you about 300 Elo or so, if both versions search to the same depth, one with LMR and one without. But the one with really will search much deeper in a normal time-constrained game, and you won't see that 300+ elo loss.
