Re: How to beat the TASC R30 (1993)
I'm worried by 15......a5; 16.Rfd1, example 16....Rb8; 17.Bc5, Rf7(might not be best); 18.b3 with either serious central or kingside pressure against us as a result.

Re: Move 16
d3 is no such weakness is isolated but it could not be easily attacked, we will not have a light squared bishop to put pressure in it. the d file is close so we could not attack it with our rooks.playjunior wrote: We want to create a weakness. Now we have 3 pawn chains vs 2, a7 is really weak: with this structure even a pure rook endgame might be lost for us. If we want to defend ANY upcoming endgame, we need to spoil white's structure a bit.
With the isolated pawn on d3 white will have at least one weakness to look after. Advancing the Q-side pawns will be harder too for white.
This is not a dream position, but what is the PLAN after g6? What are we trying to accomplish? We cannot sit and wait for obvious reasons.
15...Be4 16 Bd3 BxB 17.cxB and now what? 17...Rb8 18 b4 and white majority is mobilizing.
My idea of g6 I posted earlier regroup or pieces Qc7 Be5 Kg7 and put pressure in white kingside.
Again my second option will be a5 if it is a choice between a5 and Be4 I choose a5.

15...a5 16.Rfd1 Qe8
15...a5 16.Rfd1 Qc7 should be considered prioritary.

I think Zach meant e5 and d6. d5 just runs into Bc5gerold wrote: d5 is good move Zach. It starts the push down the middle for
the two middle pawns for black. I think this may be a good
move after a5.
Best,

If we end up with a tie, I'll toss a coin and give a deciding vote if asked

No - that's counting Ray's vote. If he insists on withdrawing, it's a tie between a5 and g6.Steve B wrote:i think its STILL a three way tieSpock wrote:So what is the vote tally now ?

my error
Graham wrote its a three way tie if you HAVE NOT withdrawn it
http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopi ... 03&t=28922
so if you have withdrawn it ..it becomes a two way tie bewtween a5 and g6
can this get any more confusing regards?
