I've always liked the chessbase light programs and have recently been using the 2007 version. Any thoughts on whether it's worth it to upgrade to the premium edition? (I'd like to be able to use other uci engines with it.)
Regards,
Mark

I have it.
It's a nice software. It has a small database, you can download updates...use engines to analyze.
Well worth.

Somebody posted the other day that the registered version comes with Fritz 10 instead of Fritz 6 -which actually was tested as weaker than Fritz 5.32- for the demo version. I believe Teemu Pudas could not find any confirmation about this on the Chessbase pages. Could you tell us Adranik?playjunior wrote:I have it.

I have used Chessbase Light 2007 mainly to follow the Mexico match on Playchess and as I have no other ChessBase software I could use it to take a look at Harry Schnapps' excellent .ctg books for Rybka. Using that with Fritz 6 only is not really much fun though, I'm glad Harry also made a Shredder .bkt version! The Chessbase Light demo obviously has some other limitations, no saving of games for instance, but other than that it seems a good piece of software.

Thanks for the info. I always liked the chessbase interface and I'd like to use other uci engines with it, so it would probably be worthwhile for me to buy the premium version. It would also be nice to look at the ctg books.

yes, after activating it Fritz 10 "appears" in the engines list. It is a very useful engine, very strong and fast tactically. I use it in combination with, say, free Rybka, Fruit or Toga to analyze games. Fritz finds tactics very fast if there are any. Rybka actually gives accurate evaluations.
I also like the search-online functionality very much. There are a couple of bugs indeed, but, as I said, the thing is well worth the money I paid for it.
