I voted yes. Plus added this:
"Not just yes, But hell yes. I would also like an option to limit hardware types. This way Single Processors can be matched with Single Processors, Quads with Quads, and Duals with Duals, etc ...
These are my two cents, your milage may vary ..."

I think that Rybka vs Rybka matches are pointless, it only proves that one of them either got better hardware or a better book.AdminX wrote:I voted yes. Plus added this:

Definitely the case Tony, but I think that you are aware of the "Elo hunting" disease from which around 90% of the Playchess users suffer....Tony Thomas wrote:I think that Rybka vs Rybka matches are pointless, it only proves that one of them either got better hardware or a better book.AdminX wrote:I voted yes. I think that around 10% are real computer chess freaks, testing books, new opening lines, practising their chess abilities, etc.

I think hardware and book helps ... but by far the biggest advantage to playing on Playchess is not having a super fast internet connection. If you live in the US or Europe ... you have very few line breaks ... which means you rarely lose due to a disconnect. But in other countries where you have to deal with poor internect connectivity ... as soon as a line break hits (even a few seconds) you lose the connection to the game ... and then when you try to get back in ... there server says it won't put you back in because you are already connected ????!!!! This continues until you lose on time or your opponent flags you ... and then you can log in again. I am unfortunate to have such a poor connection ... and in most occasions I am happy if I can have 5 games in a row without a disconnect loss.

avoid playchess engine room, it is more about competition between hardware/books used rather than between engines.
I would vote yes in that poll.
I would vote yes in that poll.

Playing on playchess is like racing honda accords, even if you win, you are still a retard..I guess elo hunting can be sort of addictive. Even I got tired of Romi losing so many games on ICC that I tend to pick matches that are favorable for Romi.swami wrote:avoid playchess engine room, it is more about competition between hardware/books used rather than between engines.

Re: Poll about Playchess machine room (too much Rybka ?)
Hi,
I ws involved in the discussion on Playchess yesterday that led to Harvey setting up this poll. Just to be clear - nobody is proposing a Rybka only room. The proposal is that the current engine room stays as is ie. Rybka and any other engines can play there - but that in addition there is a non-Rybka room set up so that people who want to dust off their copies of Loop, List, Junior, Fruit, Toga, Shredder, Fritz etc can choose to play there and compete fairly - just like the old days !! Plus then having the option to play against Rybka in the other room as well if they choose to.
