Dear Chess Friends,
I started a new handicapped test: Rybka 3 + book vs Stockfish 5 + without book
So I wonder (with the current conditions),
Can we say Rybka is still King ?!
Conditions:
i7 980X 3.33 GHz / i7 970 3.20 GHz
Time control: 3 Minutes per game
MP testing (6 cores)
Ponder OFF
512 MB Hash
Tablebases OFF
More Details:
The current used book (for Rybka) is completely a new creation (based mainly on SCCT/Playchess games)
To be honest, I spent only a few hours for the optimization of the current used opening book lines
I preferred Blitz time control, due to we will have possibility to see more played games
And more games that means more accurate standings... !
Note also that the difference between blitz and slow time control is approx. 50 Elo
With neutral short books, the Elo difference between Rybka 3 vs Stockfish 5 is approx. 200 Elo
And very soon I plan to publish the first played results of this exiting duel...
Thanks in advance for your voting !
Best,
Sedat

And here are the current played results:
.

Download Games:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/f89l0 ... 3vsst5.rar
Once more I'd like to mention,
Depending on what kind of opening book, any top engine can be be performed 0-200 Elo or even more
In other words, the opening is the key in chess !!
And as wee see (even only a few hours of working over the current used book)
Rybka 3 performed in almost equal performance as Stockfish 5
And I am quite sure in that,
Rybka 3 will be performed better than Stockfish 5 (in case of more optimizing the used book lines)
For example, with more hard working...the Elo difference is expecting at least 50 Elo in favor of Rybka
Note also probably I will pause and stop working over this project,
Due to I've got the necessary data...
Hopes this helps...
Best,
Sedat

Re: New Poll: What is your opinion ?
Btw,
I am little bit surprised that the Talkchess poll leader is:
I don't think the opening book can help much
Probably those who voted 'book can not help'.. missed to check the played games
Or maybe they missed to check SCCT Book Tournaments or Playchess ratings ??
Or... ???
For example,
In other chess forums.... people see more reality than here !
To be honest,
I don't care too much about poll voting results...
Because from my experience I can say: on polls I am a loser, but on reality.. ?!
But however,
Many thanks to all chess friends who voted so far...

Don't you think this poll would be better on your website??

Re: New Poll: What is your opinion ?
I didn't like any of the answers so didn't vote. Here's my issues.
1. Stockfish gets no book. Which means it will likely play the same moves each time as white and black, unless Rybka varies. That can stack the game badly.
2. If Rybka has good opening lines to choose from, it will always be starting out ahead which is an advantage, unless stockfish finds some sort of unusual replies here and there to take Rybka out of book.
3. If Rybka uses learning, this could go bad pretty quickly since a good learner would keep playing winning lines while avoiding any that it loses.
When I first tried to use Senpai on my cluster, I had no book, and Crafty really mauled it badly. Once I looked at the games, the problem was obvious. I don't remember the various issues that prevented me from adding Senpai to my gauntlet, but there were some things that didn't work well, perhaps time control or something. But a program that plays the same moves over and over gets into trouble against a learner. And even without the learning if the book is particularly decent.

I used to try this verse crafty with the Halloween Attack but it didn't last long once crafty's learning kicked in.bob wrote:I didn't like any of the answers so didn't vote. Here's my issues.

Re: New Poll: What is your opinion ?
do both engines have 3 minutes per game? in that case it is a time handicap game for stockfish. rybka starts with a solid book position with no time wasted, while stockfish had to calculate all the moves

Yes Lonnie, if my poll was on my website, the number of the voters probably would be over 100reflectionofpower wrote:Sedat,Sedat Canbaz wrote:Dear Chess Friends,

Don't you think this poll would be better on your website??
But however,
Instead of over poll results, we should concentrate over the opening book which I used for Rybka
So what is more important: the poll results or my published game results ???
And as I mentioned before (if only with a few hours of optimization over my book),
If I reached + Rybka 3 in almost equal strength as Stockfish 5
Then just imagine....in case of serious work...then probably I would reach 100 Elo over Stockfish 5

Yes, 3 minutes per gamestyx wrote:do both engines have 3 minutes per game? in that case it is a time handicap game for stockfish. rybka starts with a solid book position with no time wasted, while stockfish had to calculate all the moves
I agreed... actually I already stated and once I will try to explain,
Stockfish or any other top engine (without book) have no BIG chances...it does not matter blitz or slow time control
All it depends,
On the superiority of the used opening lines
Best,
Sedat
