Linux & chess do not mix. Take it from ME. Take it to Stef on this one. I BET he has the solution.SzG wrote:I have installed Win8.1 on an SSD. The SSD will also contain syzygy endgames, otherwise I'd like to keep it clean.
However, Shredder wants to keep everything on drive C although I installed it on drive E.
Is there a way to prevent that?

Re: Problem with the Shredder GUI under Windows 8.1
Sorry I haven't tried this myself. But Shredder puts lots of stuff in standard Windows locations, e.g.SzG wrote:I have installed Win8.1 on an SSD. The SSD will also contain syzygy endgames, otherwise I'd like to keep it clean.

C:\Users\Ray\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\ShredderChess\Deep Shredder 12 UCI\Engines
I'm not sure that you can do anything about that, but the space used is quite small ? Shredderbases can definitely be moved though, there is an ini file that you can edit for those.
Stefan is really good for support so he should be able to help, although he is obviously busy at the WCCC at the moment.

A general solution is the program "InBetween". It can convert one UCI command to another.SzG wrote:I have installed Win8.1 on an SSD. The SSD will also contain syzygy endgames, otherwise I'd like to keep it clean.

I am not really sure what prompted your anti-Linux rant. Do you really think Windows 8.1 is a Linux flavor?reflectionofpower wrote:lINUX SUCKS PLIN 5 simple, the hidden in plain site loving truth

not really.
I allways install Shredder not into the windows installation but on another drive or under user\werner\programs\
If you want your c drive clear there is only one way: you have to tell Windows to move all c:\users\ files to another drive. It is not easy - you have to google to see how it works.

There could be a windows registry edit that could solve it, but you need to be careful with that...
Gabor, depending on your browser, it could also be storing its internet cache and cookies on the C: drive, so you may need to investigate that too.
