Rpi4 8gb + 250Gb Ssd + rpi case seems to me a sufficient dedicated chess computer for about 200 € 8-)

I have a pi zero w running stockfish and a 128gig SD card so it can hold at least the 345 man syygy egtbs :) been a fun little box for < $50

Hoping to hop in and watch the tournament later today. Good luck to all participants.

Talking about development time. Say 30 Euro per hour if it were a normal job.
By the way data scientist may get 200 Euro per hour. But when less time needed to finish your work you may not earn much more.

Nowadays hardware is cheap, at the end of the 70's and beginning of the 80's you had to pay 15K Dutch guilders ($7500) for a decent PC, and I bought several just for the hobby. Later you could buy the Commodore-64, the Amiga 500 and the Atari-ST, they were somewhat cheaper.

Ok from this point of view but thinking only with it you would never have a hobby at all ^^

When I was 14 or 15 I spend 500 guilders on a chess challenger which played bad say 1300 Elo
At that time I earned 5 guilders a week.

Maybe that's why I started learning programming. Don't know.
I only get stress from (programming) computers. But nowadays you can't do without.
But I get more stress from mobile phones.

First computer was an Amstrad CPC 464 and after some years a 486 Olivetti (for 2250 € that were more money than today) First chess software i can clearly remember playing many times with are Cyrus Chess and Chessmaster 3000 ^^
