speaking from Shredder versions in times before Rybka is on position 1.
Indeed the current version is very old and around place 15-18 in the World today.
But 30-40 Elo stronger as Wasp.
Maybe with NNUE and more modern processor improvements Shredder can be on place 3-6 today?!
For 2-3 months I contact Stefan Meyer-Kahlen.
I sent him some bugs / a list of bugs Shredder GUI produced.
For around three weeks Stefan sent me different questions to my list.
Possible (I am not sure, not asked him) that a new Shredder version is on the way.
Normally I should nothing say about Chessbase and Rybka.
In times Rybka 1 is available I made an interview with Vas.
Before the interview I had a long discussion with him per eMail.
Vas asked for my opinion to a commercial project.
I told him, the best way is to go to Chessbase or Convekta and Vas do that.
But to this time I had no information about the Fruit problematic around it.
Forgot to write that!

Because of the exponential advance of chess software, in five years the stockfish of today will look weak compared to whatever is best in 2026.
I don't think we need to be critical of existing software. The ancient Rybka will still clean the clock of 99.99999% of the {unassisted} humans on earth at any time control, so it was pretty good when it was best (like Shredder, Junior, etc.).
For instance, from Pohl's site, SF has risen 418 Elo in 5 years.
I expect the new AMD GPU architecture to be a jaw-dropper.
Coordinated access to video RAM by both the CPU and GPU. Think of it.
Right, there are two common extremes that we all can do well to avoid -
1) worshipping at the 'feet' of the current #1 as if it were an infallible god
2) totally dismissing any former #1 of the past few years as weak and worthless

I agree completely. And yet I suspect that everyone (me included) is guilty of one or both of these sins from time to time.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.
