The release means nothing. That is what the actual binary that ChessBase released says. Albert Silver modified Stockfish sources to rename the engine itself to FatFritz 2 and add himself as an author. Try looking at this screenshot again.

I’m impressed that you legally acquired a copy of FF2. I myself haven’t bought any ChessBase software for many years since moving away from Windows and eschewing the awkwardness of wine and virtual machines. I’ll make sure to ask my chess playing, non programmer friends about their experiences firing up a raw uci session. Will report back when I’ve found one.

I couldn’t tell you the last time I made a comment there. And when I did, it was most likely something about jjosh’s nets or maybe some appreciative noises about gonzo using Tiny Gyal (my 16x2 network) for testing Allie. Gonzo is on tilt.

Might be time for the classic thought experiment: Dkappe must argue that Fire & Houdini have violated the GPL and that FF2 is scummy, while the other users on the forum argue the opposite. I have a feeling Dkappe won't be able to muster up an argument, since he has not entertained any of them thus far.

Not sure I need “the benefit of the doubt.” Nobody except for chess programmers cares about what the uci says. Nobody. Cares.
