Arimaa Fans?

Post by jshriver »

Curious if anyone else here liked Arimaa. Its a pretty fun game and getting back into it after a hiatus. The world championship is coming up this Saturday. Anyone planning to participate?

I'm much to weak to participate in a big event, but I like the game very much.

The animals and the chance to place them on your own choice for the starting position makes it already very different to chess but you still have some kind of correlation as for the affinity to chessboard and chess- figures.

You soon get used to the for beginners somewhat strange movement- rules , but they are still somewhat difficult to plan for some moves in advance, so it's an even more "strategic" game then chess maybe.
Probably that's why it took some time of development till engines got stronger then human players.

The four cavities in the board makes it even more difficult to get correct tactical play and the blunders are of even more surprising effects.
