Rook odds match: human vs engines.

Post by pepechuy »

Hi to all.

Last week, I played a queen odds match against Crafty, Komodo, Lc0 and Stockfish (I won the four games). You can find them in the "Tournaments and matches" forum.

This week, I will begin a rook odds match (I play black, I will alternate between removing the a1-rook and the h1-rook). My intention is to play until I least one game against each engine from each of the two positions (at least eight games).

Time control: 15 minutes initial time, 10 seconds increment from move 1.
Default settings for each engine, except when noted.
Ponder is turned on for all engines.

Game 1 is about to begin, against Crafty, without the a1-rook.
resign = 327.6

I will share the game here, once it is over.

Greetings.

Hi.

Here it is, the game against Crafty. A draw, I failed to win.
I missed the perpetual check when I played 24... Re7. I only considered 28. Qe7 (instead of 28. Qh5), a knight up for me, with good winning chances.
I saw the perpetual the next move. Still, I captured the knight with 25... Qd3, because I was worried about Crafty playing Ndf4, ¡and I might get checkmated!

Hi.

Here it is, the game against Komodo. I lost.
I just missed the fork 22. Nb5. After that, it just went downhill for me.
And I missed too 31. Nb5 (I expected 31. Nf5), a curious coincidence.

Also, I ran out of time on move 32, ¡but Banksia did not flag me! ¿do I need to set something up for automatic flagging?
After that, I tried to resign, but I did not find any button resign the game. ¿Is there one? ¿Where is it?
So, I just played a few more moves until mate.

I might play the next game against Lc0 today. Otherwise, expect it tomorrow.

Hi.

Now, the game against Lc0. It was a complete disaster (for me), I just missed several of its moves.
I usually do not play so bad (or at least, that is what I like to think).
I still do not find a "resign" button in Banksia.

Hi.

The game against Stockfish, removing the h1 rook. Another loss for me.
I felt I was going to win this one. With 12... Nh5 I sacrificed a knight for two pawns, but I think I still had the position under control.
When I played the passive 27... h6, I missed 28. Nd4. I still had an advantage, but the position was already beyond my control. A bad omen against an engine.
I still do not find the way to resign a game in Banskia, as a human (but I see that the engines can resign). Perhaps I am missing something very simple.

Hi.

Finally, a win for me. Against Crafty, removing the h1 rook.
This time, I set resign = 327 (instead of 327.67, like the previous game against Crafty), and it resigned two moves before mate.
I got into some trouble in the king's side, but was able to solve it without losing significant material. After the queen trade, I felt confident about the win.

Which version of Komodo will you be using ? That would be an interesting game to see, and approximately what is your rating? Is it close to 2000 FIDE ? which is what you will need to be competitive against Rook Odds Versus Komodo Dragon version 2.6.1.

This was my Rook odds vs Komodo Dragon 2.6.1. I figured that since Dragon was without its a1 Rook, I could make a silly Rook move to h6 and prevent any future attack against my Black King and it work at the end, but I could have played a better move and activated my Rook instead

Hi.

It is Komodo 12.1.1 64-bit.
I am playing against the engines that can be downloaded directly within BanksiaGUI.
I am unrated. Or rather, I have a Mexican rating of 1500, but I think it was not computed, rather assigned arbitrarily as a player with too few games.
As a young player my Mexican rating was above 1800, I guess it was deleted after years of inactivity.

Greetings.

Hi.

Now, the game against Komodo, removing the a1 rook.
I like my move 16... Nc4. I realised that the priority must be to recover the square d7 for my queen, thus the need to remove White's knight from e5.
Unfortunately, I did not follow up correctly, I now think 17... Bd6 (instead of the immediate 17... Qd7) was better, in order to capture the knight as soon as it reaches e5 or c5.
I completely missed 22. Bb4. At least I got two minor pieces for the queen, plus the rook I had from the beginning. I was not worried then.
From Komodo's evaluation, I see now that 28... Kb6 was a blunder.
I am confident that, eventually, I will win. ¿How many tries before that? Hopefully not too many.
