Re: Stockfish: Our lawsuit against ChessBase

btw - assuming that computer generated art can be copyrighted (and the case that it can seemed compelling to me), the economist in me sees the impact of this being the lowering of the value of copyrights to almost zero because once anyone can create great art in one second at the click of a mouse, ...

Re: stockfish evaluates knight as more than rook

If it's so bad then beat it. Should be easy.

Re: Stockfish: Our lawsuit against ChessBase

That is NOT what happened. It is next to impossible that Somebody simply guessed a password - nearly an impossible scenario that Robert would have left stolen code on insecure server . Most likely that: 1. Houdini leaked sources are not original sources but a leaked Rev. Eng. job done similar to th...

Re: Stockfish: Our lawsuit against ChessBase

Also, you predicted that nobody could file a case because there is no GPL violation (at least concerning FF2) and that it would just be forgotten. You've been wrong about that too - after all there is a well renowned lawyer that does support SF's case. I wouldn't consult you for legal advice either...

Re: Stockfish: Our lawsuit against ChessBase

...if an illegal obtained evidence is nevertheless approved by German courts varies from case to case and depends. -- Srdja Let’s hope noob and ChickenLogic aren’t offering cucumber legal advice. My logic is rather simple: SF team has a lawyer. That lawyer knows about the origin of Houdini's source...

Re: Stockfish: Our lawsuit against ChessBase

There are few cases where it's not the judge deciding if something is allowed as evidence: torture and other extreme methods of gaining evidence can under no circumstances be used even if it saved lives. Other's aren't as easy and require a judge. This case is pretty easy: Somebody simply guessed a ...

Re: Stockfish: Our lawsuit against ChessBase

As far as I am aware almost all countries in the EU. Making laws based on Religion can be dangerous. The reason why guessing passwords is ok is that even though somebody technically did something unethical one is still partly responsible for ones privacy and safety. A recycled password is basically...

Re: Stockfish: Our lawsuit against ChessBase

Next you'll argue Houdini source code is available and therefore not a GPL violation. "Just ask for source on some Russian forum" It's how the Houdini source was obtained that bothers me. Evidence gathered by guessing passwords isn't illegal in Germany. Let's say you did something bad and the evide...
