Re: UCI's readyok: A mistake or a misunderstanding

I agree that the wording is completely contradictory. How I understand (or how I would use it) is in your #1 way when the engine is initializing (reading TBs, making the Hash, etc), which completely blocks the engine from doing any other thing wether you want it or not, and which by today's standar...

Re: Fortress detection?

Silver has many moves. If he plays top-down, then he can (and I assume must) capture one of the Gold Kings, and moving the King on h8 would be illegal. So I assume he plays bottom-up. In which case he can move all of his checkors except one. (Apparently checkers cannot capture backwards, so that mo...

Re: Fortress detection?

I don't know enough about Checkers to even see why the presented position is a fortress. IIRC, in Checkers, you lose when you have no moves left. Silver has one move, with the king in the top right, going back and forth. Gold can not capture any of the silver pieces. (You jump over them, and land o...

Re: New engine releases & news 2021

NNUE or NN ? The executable is small .......and nothing impressive in the play of this Rust engine. Dude. Be fair. I didn't know on top of my head where Ktulu is in the CCRL list, and I never heard of Velvet. I just downloaded it and started a test against current Rustic dev (~2150) and Minimalches...

Re: Progress on Loki

The future of Loki As a last thing, I feel like I should mention what Loki's future holds... I just graduated high-school in June (celebrations of this is also the reason I haven't worked much on Loki the last weeks) and because of that, I will have to start working. This in turn means that I proba...

Re: Not reproducible

Just make an extra King PST with 0 for the king being in the center, and increasing penalties when it nears the edge and the corners. Make sure the penalties increase rapidly. So, center is 0; one file closer to the edge is -5, two files closer to the edge is -20, and so on. Only use this table when...

Re: 1k zx chess sources question

I hope you and HGM doesn't mind that I'm answering this, as I happen to be in this thread now. Mr. Muller I just confused about the following thing: fit program to certain amount of RAM and source code size. So this is my current understanding: 1. In RAM we load things like board array, piece offset...

Oh Marcel!
Sargon!
That's the name!
I was trying to recall it but totally forgot!
There was an entire thread here dedicated to it!
Thank you!
Have fun with it :) I had Sargon 5 in the beginning of the 90's, before I switched to Fritz. It was a good program, great graphics for its time.

Re: 1k zx chess sources question

Hi guys, I have a few questions on 1k zx chess by David Horne: 1. 1K means 1K of RAM? 2. Were there any limitations on source code size? 3. Is it written in assembly because BASIC interpreter takes some RAM on it's own? 4. Are there any ports of 1k zx chess from assembly to whatever languages? I'm ...

Re: Can an engine calculate how fast Human GM lose ratings after 55 ?

At age 63 my fide rating was about the same as it averaged over the previous forty years. Only after that I started to decline about 20 elo per year. I've noticed that "lower" rated GM's (the ones that are between 2600 and 2700 their entire life) seem to decline less rapidly, compared to the >= 270...
