Re: superhuman engines on common hardware?

I think I agree, if we were able to extract the plain patterns from NNs we could build superior non-NN engines. The point with NNs is that the technique is quite comfortable, you 'just' need tons of data to train a network, to extract knowledge from these networks, or from the data source, is more ...

The dispute is about points of law: the question at the heart of this case is, "Can SF withdraw the GPL license from CB?"
And that is the part of the thread I left here.

Fair enough: you've done a good thing.

Re: superhuman engines on common hardware?

grave digger....3.5 years later, all top ten engines on CCRL use neural networks. The question is wrong in today's context: "common hardware" would have to include SOCs that cost just £0.50 (if you buy them by the thousand), run on thousandths of a volt, and have Bluetooth built in. Certainly it wo...

Re: Stockfish: Our lawsuit against ChessBase

I have split off the rest of this thread to Engine origins so if you don't want to stay on topic please go there. Thanks This is a mistake IMHO: there isn't a dispute about the origin of FF2. The dispute is about points of law: the question at the heart of this case is, "Can SF withdraw the GPL lic...

Re: Stockfish: Our lawsuit against ChessBase

Why is computer chess so full of nasty, spiteful people? If I may be permitted a generalisation, there seem to be a lot of spergs in this field. Sperg, a derogatory slang term for someone with Asperger syndrome, autism spectrum disorder or someone showing traits that are commonly associated with it...

Re: Stockfish: Our lawsuit against ChessBase

Computers can not create art (whatever they create can in no way be called art). If you really think they can you understand art even less than computers. https://www.thestar.com.my/tech/tech-news/2019/11/14/art-meets-ai-computer-generated-works-set-for-new-york-sale https://www.google.com/search?q...

Re: Stockfish: Our lawsuit against ChessBase

Based on what I’ve seen in the blog post and the statements of various stockfish contributors like noob, the facts of their case don’t seem that strong. It leads one to wonder whether winning the case is their primary concern. Shortly after FF2 was launched, there was a long thread in this forum di...

Re: Did all top commercial engines around 2005 violate Fruit 2.1's GPL license?

...And then, somebody decompiled Rybka, and everybody could see his secrets. Since it was never discovered who the culprit were, Rybka's ideas were diffused and incorporated in all modern engines. Strange things were happening at the time: Vas's behaviour was odd in general(IMO), he was looking for...
