Re: Hard Puzzle for July

But 58# is also over 50 move rule   Pity, but yes. After your main line with 48...Ba5 ff at 52.Bb3 instead of a7 is drawn by 50, in your line in braces 48...Kb8, from there onward like in your .pgn, with 55.Bb3 50 moves- boundary it reached as well. But it's fun to go on and on trying...

Re: Hard Puzzle for July

Have a look: But rather at this one, the one before once again was buggy, 73.Bb3 shouldn't be answered by Kxa6?! but by Ka8 of course, that ends up <100: [Event "?"] [Site "?"] [Date "2021.07.28"] [Round "?"] [White "Hobacle"] [Black "Juli"] [Result "0-1"] [Annotator "Martan,Peter"] [SetUp "1"] [FE...

Re: Hard Puzzle for July

Engine didn't help me from 2...Qg5+ to 90.g8N at all. Have you considered a question, how can Ottó Bláthy find the exact DTMs of his puzzles 140 years ago? And this puzzle is #106 undoubtedly. Well that's the question, and it wasn't me, who did raise it to this importance, but it's one of thematic ...

Re: Hard Puzzle for July

I think you'd better spend more time in understanding the main line, not on the DTM. The main line, which one ever that might be (cyclic zugzwang always means the order of the triangles is exchangable, so there isn't any one and only main line except the author's one arbitrarily chosen by him) isn'...

Re: Hard Puzzle for July

...probably your approach with "normal" engines is just better !?...lets see :-) Well, SlowChess acts somehow in between "normal engine" and specialised mate searching one, therefore prefers shortest mating line to longer one leading to 50 moves draw now and then obviously, of course that doesn't h...

Re: Hard Puzzle for July

I see, you try to avoid 50 moves- rule by taking Nh1 as a midway- capture- move. Even if that does work, (haven't had a closer look with engine till now, but reading just from forum-animated .pgn of yours, I' think, White should be able to have some single more moves at the very end by avoiding to s...

Re: Hard Puzzle for July

Here is my tip: The White King has to 'go to the enemy king and steel the pawn on g7'(said Spliffjiffer) indeed, like a traveler in the desert, facing a long road without food. However, have you forgotten the White Knight at h1? Oh, you want to tell me diplomatically, you think it does work <50 mov...

Re: Hard Puzzle for July

You must consider the 50-move rule in this puzzle. Of course I must, if I want to know, why the engines give 0.00- evals, I need not as for judging it's value, if I do so, I can see it as positive to cross the border, thus fooling the engines, or I can see it as negative, that's a subjektive view o...
