Re: On-line engine blitz tourney July

Thanks a lot for the tourney, Zahak did a lot worse than what I was expecting... but had tough matchups too :) A nine round Swiss tournament doesn't mean much. The TPR probably gives the best indication of playing strength, in your case this is 2293. If you want to compare with CCRL ratings you hav...

Re: On-line engine blitz tourney July

This time Nightmare was lucky and ended at the first place. The win against Schooner in the 3th round probably was the decisive one. I didn't change the program for several months, all you need is a good book, fast hardware and a lot of luck. Belfish (a Stockfish derivative) and LczTinker (LC0-v0.28...

Re: On-line engine blitz tourney July

So only few days left to implement some extra bugs or bad ideas. Crashes to crashes. By the way 5 minutes too much to win on time. Even did not make it to win a single 1 minute game on time against Stockfish13. So looks like 55 seconds is the limit or Skippers record. You have to add a function to ...

Re: Fixing bug in TT-store function dropped playing strength...

I have implemented the 2-bucket system you suggested to replace the simple "always replace" TT that I had in version 0.5 of MinimalChess. I think it works fine but it's only a definite improvement in my tests when I limit the hash size to 5 MB or 10 MB to compensate for the fast time controls (5s +...

Re: Fixing bug in TT-store function dropped playing strength...

When storing you should take a look if an entry with the same key is already there and then store immediately, otherwise you can get the situation that a bucket contains more than one entry with the same key. Nowadays with very fast multicore computers you have store to over a billion entries per mi...

White has a rook on a half open file. Black has a weakness on h6. ?? The pawn on h6 is maybe a target, but it is not weak. Look how muc...

Re: TestPosition: easy move?

Blitz is one of the things I like the most, 25 years back I was pretty good at rapid too. I never liked games with normal (1.5 and 2.0 hours) time controls, I just didn't have the patience for it. Adjourned games like we had the past was something I always tried to avoid. Recently I tried some 5.0 b...

Re: TestPosition: easy move?

Yes the position looks a bit iffy, a pawn behind without any compensation and probably losing a second one. I've been playing for 30 years at chess clubs and in the Dutch competition, 15 years in Amsterdam and 15 years in Almere. 15 years ago our club moved to another location which I found a bit to...

Re: TestPosition: easy move?

My engine also thinks that Nf3 is best, it gives a rather exaggerated score of about one knight advantage.
