Re: Moderator Elections

This is one of the options Quentin proposed. The database of the forum is very big, though. We need a pretty big server to run the forum. A second problem is that the IP ranges are blocked not just for fun. There seem to be hacker attacks targeting TalkChess, which basically paralyze the server the ...

Re: Moderator Elections

I have been locked out of the forum for the past week. But I have been able to make e-mail contact with Quentin Turner at Chess U.S.A., and he relayed my IP address to the provider, so that I now have reliable access again. I have not had time yet to read through this thread; I just wanted everyone ...

Re: UCI's readyok: A mistake or a misunderstanding

The readyok response should be sent whenever the input loop tries to execute a new command, and encounters the isready. During search the input loop should always be ready to accept a command, as a 'stop' could arrive.

Re: Fortress detection?

Silver has one move, with the king in the top right, going back and forth. Silver has many moves. If he plays top-down, then he can (and I assume must) capture one of the Gold Kings, and moving the King on h8 would be illegal. So I assume he plays bottom-up. In which case he can move all of his che...

Re: Moderator Elections

TalkChess has been unreachable for a few days by many (including me), and I am not even sure the problem is solved for everyone. It is of course important that during the elections everyone should have an opportunity to vote. Anyway, because of this it seems unreasonable to strictly enforce the dead...

Re: Static exchange evaluation with promotion

Shouldn't this be R+B-P? (bxc8=Q Bxc8 Rxc8)? My interpretation of SEE of a given move is that it is the result of a Quiesence Search that only takes moves to a given square into account.

Re: Stockfish: Our lawsuit against ChessBase

But I assume the Stockfish source at GitHub to which they refer does contain such a copyright notice.

The comment seem to be about giving credit during marketing. I don't hink the GPL puts any conditions on how you market the program.

Re: Encoding chess rules into chess pieces

This appears to assume pieces are point symmetric, except that Pawns obviously aren't, and still use the system.

Note that the 'color' bit is redundant; you could use bit 5 of the ascii code (which distinguishes upper and lower case) for that.

Re: Stockfish: Our lawsuit against ChessBase

Is 'giving credit' a condition of the GPL?

Re: Stockfish: Our lawsuit against ChessBase

- FF2 runs on a slightly modified version of SF. This can be distributed in binary form according to the GPLv3 as long as you provide the source. See github, - Stockfish is credited prominently in the marketing copy of FF2. (I suspect they did that because Stockfish is a selling point, but that’s j...
