Re: Summer time - how does your PC cooling solution perform?

Yes, If I had to buy something today and not the budget for a Threadripper or something, the Ryzen 7 seems very good value for money, if it was available because the chip shortages seem to delay everything or it is some other bottleneck. Coolblue here in The Netherlands has a nice Ryzen 7 for just 7...

Re: Summer time - how does your PC cooling solution perform?

I have an antique: AMD Athlon 64 at 2.01 GHz. The first Athlon I think, ca. 2005 when I bought this, just a single core. Cooling is just a fan, it does get noisy now at ca. 25 degrees Celsius roomtemperature, but I should clean it perhaps that would bring some noise down. More important for the cool...

Re: Off-the-Air.com incident

Good to see Lonnie back! There might be a relation with people searching old posts as CTF was pulled. I could not access Talkchess temporarily , before any crashes happened, with "Too many connections" and I happened to use the search function at the time. It did not crash and probably this was just...

Re: CTF Survey

I am not going to vote in this thread, Harvey. For instance, Option 3; "hidden forum only visible to those who request access." What does that even mean. Members to CC will have to ask a special, extra, codeword from Sam Hull to see CTF? The usual passwords for CCC for years could not be changed, of...

Magnus loses a game after unbeaten string of 125

Not that I follow this closely but 125 games without any loss at the higest level is impressive, I don't think any world champion had such a record. Hat off to Magnus! [Event "8th Norway Chess 2020"] [Site "Stavanger NOR"] [Date "2020.10.10"] [Round "5.1"] [White "Duda, Jan-Krzysztof"] [Black "Carls...

Re: SF new null move formula

Where is this documented ? You can look it up in the details of every commit what are the changes in the code, for this latest commit Dann is referring to it is here: https://github.com/official-stockfish/Stockfish/commit/995ee4b31105ad8c7976cc68c11fabfdc5108e63 Nullmove is Step 9 in search.cpp, //...

Re: What is this?

At first sight, it does not look so ugly to me. Only if Black has not castled and there would be no pawns on the e-file, then it would be ugly because Queen could be pinned aganst the King. But otherwise you increase Queen mobility without putting Queen in vulnerable spot so Queen position is better...

Re: An Old Engine

I agree completely that the SF team is the injured party. I don't really want to get into this discussion, but I have a feeling if you would ask someone like Marco Costalba, that he would expect it to happen with Stockfish code because for instance the GPL does not give much protection. Fruit being...

Re: Help: Talkchess site unreachable

That is too bad, that you were blocked for so long. You will have to take it up with Sam, Mike. He is the only one who can clear your location from being blocked at least I think that is what is happening, see the thread about that . The site was also slow in responding to any new posts for me, or a...

Re: Off topic: problems attaching files

Since a few months this forum does not accept attachments anymore. It could be a problem of settings, but probably the administrator would say keeping the database of messages intact has a higher prioprity and total storage is limited by the finances set aside to this forum by sponsor ChessUSA. But ...
