Re: Which is the deepest Queen Sac ever made by Human that engine would not considered

Qxd5 is best, but most people would have played Qb6+ -may be hard for engines Qxd5 is good sac trap vs human opponent. Against engines it doesn't work, and is on par with Qb6+ Qxd5 was slightly better from D=42 to D=51 From D=52 and up to D=41 Qb6+ is a bit better D=53 -2,95 28. ... Qb6+ 29.Kf1 Bxd...

Re: Which Stockfish version to get good evaluations for database

Limit time, not depth. For any time you are able to spend, latest SF-NNUE will provide best possible analysis strength. If you look for mistakes you need to test 2 positions: before move and after, and to see eval difference (mistake = eval drop) If you have N cores, better run N instances with Thre...

Re: Which Stockfish version to get good evaluations for database

If you are obsessed with reported Depth UCI option, you can increase it, e.g. D=D+10, or D=D*2 This obfuscation method was sucessfully used by Vasyk in Rybka and Houdart in Houdini. It made happy people, who are obsessed with UCI report values. It makes them believe that one thing is slower/faster/d...

Re: Which Stockfish version to get good evaluations for database

First I thought about Stockfish 14 at depth 18 with NNUE but NNUE is a lot slower. 1) for any given amount of time it is a lot stronger. Consectary: for any desired analysis strength it is a lot faster. 2) the less amount of time is given -> the bigger gap versus "faster opponents" (blitz favour NN...

Re: I declare that HCE is dead...

I see no reason to believe that HCE and tunable parameters are necessarily the best or only way to achieve such goals. You could optimize a neural network for something else than pure results. A simple approach that would be interesting to try is to not just score wins as 1 and losses as 0 during t...

Re: Forget Syzygy -- Presenting the Emanuel Torresbase!

[*]Don't even store these easily won positions. We only store the "hard" positions as say index + DTM and use hash or binary search. Engine will have no chance to reach that "won position": - no TB hits - no bonus for PV leading to won position - no ELO gain due to EGTB support Store the easily won...

Re: Forget Syzygy -- Presenting the Emanuel Torresbase!

in the Emanuel Torresbase, we store a special identifier instead of the actual DTM for these "easily-won/lost" positions Syzygy 7 men: 16.7 TiB Minus 99.95%: 8.5 GiB Syzygy is not DTM, it is DTZ. It doesn't store any DTM information DTM is Nalimov/Lomonosov. So, potentially, Emanuel can have size a...

Re: The 5men and 6men Syzygys challenge for the top 3 Engines.

I noticed that most of the testing are done with either 5men and 6men Syzygys, but have you noticed any game where the top engines has lost a single game if it does NOT use 6men Syzygys ? nobody cares about 6-men OTB positions, as games are adjudicated and terminated long before this positon appear...

Re: The computer unsolvable position…

Depend what to claim as "solved' or 'unsolved'. Classical explanation for 'solved' is providing best moves for either side. Within milliseconds engine provide draw sequence for white and never suggest lose move for defending side. Any non-draw moves for white are 2000 cp lower than draw moves instan...
