SlowChess 2.6 problem

In the past I have tried and failed to run the native linux versions of Slowchess. I recently installed one of the latest versions of linux, namely Mint 20.1 mate 64bit. The versions of gcc and g++ are both 9.3 and wine is v5.0 The processor is intel but it does not support avx instructions. I downl...

Re: Stockfish 14 release round the corner

I still use Stockfish 12 since v13 is no better when using a single cpu core. I only have computers with dual core cpus and prefer just using a single core for my chess engine matches. A lot of my old engines only support 1 core anyway. Until a new version is about +40 elo above v12 using 1 core, I ...

Re: Fruit bug?

Just use the later Fruit 3.2.1 instead.
Version 3.2.1 uses Tablebases and has no problem with the position shown.

Re: Watch engine vs engine games launched from a cli?

In linux, just start an engine-engine match in xboard using the xboard command (with the required options) in a terminal window.
Then just move the terminal window to another desktop to carry on working.
You can then switch between desktops anytime to view the game.

Re: chess22k 1.14 released

I've never used Chess22k, but I did manage to get the Carballo java engine working ok in the Fritz 13 GUI a few years ago. I had to put Polyglot.exe and Wb2Uci.exe in the same folder as the java chess engine together with Carballo.ini and Wb2Uci.eng files. Those 2 files were as shown below. I hope i...

Re: REBEL 10 benchmark on modern computer

I tried installing Rebel 10 under MSDOS 6.22 and it requested a serial number. Is there something that can be typed there that it will accept? I get "[0003] This is not an offical Rebel10 Cdrom!" otherwise. "10.001.abc" (without the quotes) used to work for me during Rebel 10 installation in Window...

Re: Is there a name for this opening?

All of the games in my Scid database of engine-engine matches that reach this position are classified as ECO B12x or B12w.
The opening is classified as Caro-Kann advance variation by Scid and also by my "Batsford Chess Openings" book.
