Thanks. I had been using version 1.3 (with cygwin1.dll) until now. I did have to add the polyglot path to the books in my ini files, since the default now seems to be the engine directory.

Fonzy,

TYVM for forking it to MSVC. But sad to sat that I could not use your compile on my WinXP x64 OS. If you mind, I made an all-purpose ICC10 Win32 compile (Win98 and onwards..I hope!).

I also noticed it shows a polyglot.log file! Again, thanks.

This is fixed now,I uploaded a new version that behaves similar to the original

Nice !
Thank you Fonzy.

By the way do you why there seems to be a limit regarding the maximal number of games one may use for book building (around 320 000 if I remember well) ?

In some cases I wish I could build books from larger game files.

Marc,

I already tried the polyglot1.3w (elephantbase.net mod) which I recompiled with ICC for my pc, and it works for me building books with aprroximately 900,000 games and even higher. I remember you memtioning the limitation of the default polyglot 1.4 before, so I tried using the ICC build and it went well. I haven't tried Fonzy's modified one which was based on the previous (1.3w), but I'm sure it will work the same.

When I used the new polyglot bookbuilding command scripts you sent me, I used polyglot 1.4 with cygwin1.dll (as my polyglot 1.3w doesn't understand yet the commands), but when I merge the big files for the final book, I used the ICC polyglot build for the huge book. It also builds very fast too! You can try it pal and see for yourself.

Hi Marc,
Building books from a larger number of games should work, provided there is enough available free memory.
The size is mainly affected by number of games and max-ply

Code: Select all

C:\Documents and Settings\Fonzy\Mijn documenten\polyglot make-book -bin games.bin -pgn out6.pgn -max-ply 18 -min-game 3

A small update:
It now checks if the engine terminated after sending it "quit" and gives it a bang on the head if needed

To F. Bluemers,

Might you be interested in trying to compile and hosting a cygwin1.dll independent version of Jaap Weidemann's modified polyglot, in addition to the 1.4w version you are now offering for download?

Below is a list of improvements/changes Jaap made to polyglot. The last one he released was, I believe, "PolyGlot 1.4 X 070325". The below list is from the read me text included in the PolyGlot 1.4 X 070325 zip file.

Maybe since "Polyglot 1.4w is based on polyglot 1.3w" it isn't possible to do?

2007/03/13: PolyGlot 1.4 X 070313

- added elo to the UCI_Opponent string

- added kibitzing of bookpv and tbhits

- added "DrawOffer" and "DrawOfferMoves" commands

- fixed issues with parsing certain tag strings in book-making

- fixed draws by repitition while still in book

- fixed engine time losses

2007/03/25: PolyGlot 1.4 X 070325

- added -min-elo option to book making

Jaap's website has been down awhile, but his last released Windows version of polyglot can be gotten here (source code included in the zip).

http://rapidshare.com/files/142229957/p ... 25_win.zip

(at the time of uploading the above file, connecting to the rapidshare site was near impossible for me.)
