The oldest I have in my archive is MyChess by Dave Kittinger, dated 1985.

Interesting - how can a DOS program be from 1979 when the first MS-DOS version was released 1981?

But of course with Einstein's 'time dilatation' everything is possible!

I think this might be correct, but not sure. Microchess was around long before Dos at any rate for the Apple and for the TRS-80 at least.

Capital punishment would be more effective as a preventive measure if it were administered prior to the crime.

He-he-he !

1.-In July 1981, Microsoft bought all rights to the DOS from Seattle Computer Products.
2.-At Seattle Computer Products - the first versions of the operating system, called QDOS 0.10, were shipped in August 1980.

Biblio:

And the history comes down in past !

Well, you may be right, but the thread question was for DOS programs.

And "(C) 1979" in MyChess' startscreen doesn't mean that it was produced in this year 1979 - Dave K. could just as well have developed it since 1979 on other systems (CP/M, Apple, Atari, C64 etc.)

I know that it was a DOS question, but there were not many microcomputer chess programs around before DOS and microchess was one of the very few. And they were aggressive about making it available to various architectures.

Re: DOS like operating system

Hello Maestro Don !

We speaking here about DOS like operating system. Not about the developers.
Apple developed his Apple DOS in 1978 ! For this operating system was Microchess 2.0 .
DOS 3.1 was written mostly by Steve Woznia, Randdy Wigginton and Paul Laughton :
