WChess 1.06

Post by AdminX »

I don't think there is, but just to be sure ... I came across a old cd of Majestic Chess (aka: WChess 1.06). Is there a way to run it outside of it's interface like you can with Chessmaster?

Thanks

It still works under Windows 10, what a surprise. :D

I was looking at a few old CCC archive threads in the Winboard forum...

https://www.stmintz.com/ccc/index.php?id=311552
https://www.stmintz.com/ccc/index.php?id=311603

One of the replies in the first thread says that wchess.exe runs as a Winboard engine, but only if the Majestic Chess GUI is running and the CD is in the drive, and even after that it moves instantly.

Wchess1.06 is an extremely aggressive WB engine.

Thanks for you assistance. I seem to get it to run as an winboard engine, but it does not run properly. The program responds instantly after every move. It does not seem to matter with or without cdrom in the drive. I will try a little more. Thanks for your help.

Well, this engine requires to get a special code via KITTINX from the GUI (similar to the OPK number of TheKing engine).
I've patched this engine many years ago, so that it works also with a fixed code number (without needing the GUI).

Since Dave Kittinger already gave his permission here in the forum some time time ago to publish my patched DOS-version
of WChess, I guess it's also no problem to upload this patched WB-version of WChess:

It only works correctly as UCI-version using the included WB2UCI adaptor, i.e. you have to install WChessUCI.exe (NOT WinChess.exe)!

Well, you should complain at ZippyShare - maybe they don't like your country!? ;)

Here's an other link - I hope this one will work for you:

Hi Fern,

That is a zippyshare pop-up ad. Try right clicking on the download button and selecting 'save link as'

Just for fun I made a match LCZero x WChess, 1 min. KO ,no opening books, 12 games,in Arena GUI.
Leela won 7-5 (5 wins, 4 draws,lost 3). Funny games !

1 game went on 198 moves, although WChess was defeated by time forfeit, the game continued (I don´t know why, maybe I messed up something in arena´s eng-match settings). WChess with R+B+P+K versus Leela´s Q+K.
