SF new null move formula

Post by Dann Corbit »

First time in a very long time it has changed. It seemed a bit odd to me that it was frozen for such a long time.
I suspect that they could gain Elo by recalculation of any parameter that has been frozen for a long time.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

Elo-gain is only ~2.
It is no more nothing.

You can look it up in the details of every commit what are the changes in the code, for this latest commit Dann is referring to it is here: https://github.com/official-stockfish/S ... fdc5108e63

Nullmove is Step 9 in search.cpp,
// Step 9. Null move search with verification search (~40 Elo)
, in the new version that starts at line 819
Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.
