My first test with Komodo Dragon Vs Igel 3.0.5

Post by Chessqueen »

I just tested Komodo Dragon that my friend Jorge E Sammour-Hasbun purchased a few weeks ago, vs Igel 3.0.5 and to tell you the true they are both great program, but Igel 3.-0.5 should go commercial it is so strong using his newer Ryzen Super Computer AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 3970X 32-Core 3.7 - 4.5GHz Turbo, sTRX4, 280W TDP, Processor https://www.avadirect.com/3rd-Gen-AMD-R ... gILGfD_BwE And yes he told me that Komodo Dragon2 MCTS beat him 80% of the times at Time Control 15'+10" with Knight Odds, he is very close to IM Andras rating, or a little bit higher than IM Andras https://ratings.fide.com/profile/5300363

Any comments from Jorge as to whether the choice of which knight is removed or what White's initial first move was makes any difference in his results at knight odds?

The only comment that he made was that it was harder to play against the b1 Knight Odds, and that with the g1 Knight Odds the 1.4 pawn what not too hard to play against it, since there are so many great known response to it, he did not mentioned anything about the 1.f4 Opening, I guess Komodo Dragon2 MCTS did NOT used that opening against him.

Do you know whether he set "Contempt", and if so to what value?

I few weeks ago he called me and asked me what is the recommended contempt, and I told him to pick any number from 130 to 175, and I remembered he told me that he was going to use 140 and play a few Knight Odds games probably 5 games or so at 15'+10".

Why would you want Igel to go commercial? There are a lot of strong open source engines out there and Igel is not even the strongest, so it feels counter intuitive for me to make it commercial. I personally think that it is great that Stockfish and Leela are free yet being the strongest engines out there. It inspires other engineers to make engines free as well and this contributes to the world of chess.

You have to keep in mind that Chiron is not using nnue technology ''yet''.. if it did it would be on pair with Igel, maybe even stronger...
When comparing Igel to Chiron, You are comparing aples to oranges... since Igel is using nnue technology and Chiron is not, so it is not a fair comparasement.
