Chess is different from Go. Go has more and more stones when you are playing , Chess has less pieces when you are playing. As long as there are less than nine pieces on the board, humans can't win. If human wants to beat computer, it has to be more than 10 pieces.
Chess is more suitable for CPU, chess is requires less computing power . If you use GPU on chess engine, then it is a modern AI, you can use it to beat Stockfish, but the training computing power is much greater, not worth it.
