The best engines are all very active in improving.
And all the best engines are free.
Komodo is the only commercial engine at the top that is still active.
And why must we watch Houdini 6 from 2017 lose again. Tcec needs a rule to not play engines season after season that are no longer active.
I see no sense in that! Aren't we all just dying to see how it gets progressively easier to beat past untouchable monsters, and for how much longer they are still making difficulties and offering strong resistance?
For this we need exactly this. Season after season.

No, not all of us are dying to see this....
But TCEC does get more interesting as the weak engines fall.

And TCEC S16 final would be any of these big three!!

Most possible finalists for S16 are

1. Lco vs Stockfish or

2. Lco vs Allie!!
If AS continue improving at this pace it will top Stockfish and LC0 in a coupe of weeks

Stockfish has bad tournment in cccc,
Leela 0 loss in 96 games,
SF 5 loss all of them to NN (many of them are in same opening , similar loss like previous tournments),

In this position , SF did not expect Rxd7 and say 0.84.

24 games between 256 threads (192 cores ) vs Leela! Leela is leading in TCEC!!

It looks like 10 cores, 100 cores or 1000 cores SF doesnt matter much against Leela , Leela on good GPU will still kick positional weakness of Stockfish!

On my slow i5:

Code: Select all

Analysis by CyberNezh-dev:

1.Rxd7
  White is clearly winning: +- (15.48 ++)  Depth: 38/112   00:01:51  1277MN

1.Rxd7 Bxd7 2.Nf6+ Bxf6 3.gxf6 Qb1+ 4.Kg2 Qa1 5.Qf4 Qxf6 6.Qxf6 e5 7.Rc1 Bh3+ 8.Kxh3 Ra6 9.Rc5 Re8 10.Bxg6 fxg6 11.Qxg6+ Kf8 12.Qf6+ Kg8 13.Rc4 e4 14.Rc5 Re5 15.Rxe5 Ra7 16.Re8+ Kh7 17.Rh8#
  White mates: +- (#17) Depth: 64/33 00:03:32 2871MN

Some runs get Rxd7 under 1 min, most under 2 min.

Update of 100 games against Lco vs SF!

SF marginally won with +13 -12 =75 score (50.5 vs 49.5).
Facts. (Excluding margin of error in 100 games)

1. It was the same score as Season 14 final ( Leela T30 vs 44 cores Stockfish)

2. Stockfish has x4 speed hardware.

3. x4 speed boost Stockfish +30 elo against T40 Leela (there were not much elo improvement in both SF and Leela sides, although different nets were used ).

4. Beyond 40 threads, doubling Stockfish is not so great against Leela. (x4 speed= 30 elo means, doubling speed gives Stockfish +7.5 elo).

Meanwhile in cccc 9, top 3 are in tie.

Any of them have 33% chance of missing out the final.
