The bottom line is both forums mentioned in this thread promote the sharing of commercial chess materials for free and that is illegal , end of story.

Moderation is known to have disrespect for their users
Really? Why is that?
Several users and me have had their posts deleted for arbitrary reasons. I know someone else that quit MZ Chess for this reason. And since this happened within a short time frame after I joined, it's a thing that happens on a regular basis.

Even my post stating why I was quitting was deleted :P

Where exactly you saw "Thanks" system etc? If you have any problems / disagreement then write about it on the forum right away.
No need to slander.
Situation 1:

-User shares some stuff as attachments on their post.

-A new user wants to download them, but the system in place doesn't allow them to see attachments until they make "10 meaningful posts."

Result: People can't see attachments, so sharers have to use third party hosts. If those hosts or links die, the person wanting to download is out of luck.

Situation 2:

-User does something nice.

-Another user thanks them for that in a post.

-A moderator appears and warns the second user about how they shouldn't be thanking in a post and should be using the thank button on posts.

Result: People that thank other people are being censored now?

Where's the slander? I don't know how good Sugar compares to other Stockfish branches, but Marco sure has a terrible moderator taste...

Well, the private attachment thing has a sense: only contributing users can get those resources (although they could reupload the stuff to mirror sites). This was made to push the user to bring something useful, and I have to admit that worked as they have the most high quality games around the Internet.

The thank button thing: well, in any house the owner brings the rule so I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If one makes an articulate thanks comment explicating why the content was useful it's even accepted by the forum.

The only negative point it's some rotten apple moderating that forum... I was banned by a greek bastard (don't misunderstand me, I like Greek people except that one) well known to be infamous, stabbing people behind their shoulders, he even permbanned people defending non-liked (by them) users. What is hironical is that he became a bookmaker using the tools I gave for free, he used my things, I supported him and what I received? A permban... And Zerbinati was even on his side, quite sad. That admin (the greek one) is known on Playchess to be a 'cherry picker': he raises his elo just by drawing with the strongest ones and he doesn't accept weaker player. I guess THAT rotten apple is the apple of discord of that forum.

The spirit of sharing is to ask nothing in return. Otherwise you're selling, even if you're not selling for money.

The Thanks system is alienating, as it create classes (people with many thanks, and new users start at 0), so people with fewer Thanks than others are like second-class citizens. I felt bad for being new, but that didn't motivate to to share to get more Thanks, it motivated me to quit.

The best thing in MZ Chess is the people that share. I hope that if MZ is one day hacked and is never to be seen again, that those people find other venues to keep sharing, hopefully without crippling systems and moderators in place.

The system was meritocratic and I can't see anything bad about it. The more you share, the higher you go.

I fully agree with you here. The real passionated ones will continue anyway. CrapCleaner, Hurnavich, Alexey1976, tacos40, P. Grayson, RomeoA28, komodoslash and many others, to make some name. These users have contributed so much and their work was significant for the progress of computer chess.

But then sharing becomes a game, the point becomes "to go higher", not to improve the world with what you share.

If people are only sharing to see their Thanks count go up, they're sharing for the wrong reasons.

The Internet gods may have spoken and MZ Forum is toast - or not.
As at noon I'm getting a 404.

The Forum has an admin who doesnt speak a word of English - nice going for an English-only Forum -- :D
Deleted my post - he didnt like it or something.

The other admin and 2 mods are fine - no hassle.

Goofy -- :D

I disagree with you. You know, there is two categories of people, one which are sharing and the only think you need is to click on "Thank you" button, just to show your appreciation for the material that you get and to motivate the author/member. How hard it can be? Don't forget that the author spent his time for free, for making opening books, engines etc.

Second category is "grabers",people who like only to "grab" stuff, without providing or sharing anything at all from their side and this is sad.
As people says - "sharing is caring", but, "zero appreciation leads to zero motivation".
