Some of us tried our best to give a fair service in the name of chess nothing more nothing less,
If the forum has gone then it will be a loss as it was a hub for games DB and Books, Engines.

@Hurnavich
@Aleksei
both of you (with Scorpio) have been very generous with your resources, skills and moderation.
No complaints from me ..
Marco's problems were manifold not least of which he opted for quantity rather than quality and that his choice of autocratic and hypocritical moderators was not exactly conducive to maintaining a friendly environment. As Ovyron points out some members chose to leave - so did I .. rather than put up with that.
Admittedly my contributions there were more of a 'fun' type hardly serious but the members there (some anyway) enjoyed it.
Cant say I'd miss the Forum - you two for sure ..

If the forum is really gone is a tragedy even for me, being a remote "grabber".

Sharing what? Can you share something valuable right now? Like, what?
Sharing is about having something of value and giving it to other people, if people don't have anything of value to share it's disrespectful to tag them as "grabbers", and say they don't contribute, because what are you going to contribute if you have nothing to contribute?
Dividing people in "sharers" and "grabbers" is creating classes which leads to discrimination, while people should be treated equally, no matter how much they share, because you don't know if they're sharing everything that they can (which could be nothing).
The funny thing is that most sharers didn't agree to MZ Chess's system, so instead of attaching to a post something only "sharers" could see, they shared it to a third party website like sendspace so everyone can enjoy what they share and not just other "sharers."
The ironic thing is that, if MZ Chess died, all the attachments created "by sharers, for sharers" died with it, while all the sharers that did it for everyone have still what they uploaded on other servers, so they just need to link it in another forum.

I agree. There were all the Playchess engines tournaments of every day since 2017. Plus alot of valuable free books to fight against and new or updated engines.

Alexei meant the ones downloading for months with no contributions nor even clicking the thank button. By the way, this button is also on chessgod101 and chess2u.Ovyron wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 7:24 pmSharing is about having something of value and giving it to other people, if people don't have anything of value to share it's disrespectful to tag them as "grabbers", and say they don't contribute, because what are you going to contribute if you have nothing to contribute?

Re: https://mzchessforum.altervista.org
Sharing is done for the enjoyment of other people, not getting thanked or accumulating Thanks which is just a meaningless number that raises used to discriminate people.
But they don't have moderators that warn users that they should be using the Thank system instead of thanking people in a post. After all, people taking the time to write a post in appreciation are doing more than those that just use the Thank button, so the Thank button makes people lazy and they'd show their appreciation in posts less in general.
All the Thanks I accumulated in MZ Chess (some which were accumulated on deleted posts! ) were meaningless to me.

We have different points of view here.

Re: https://mzchessforum.altervista.org
Are you saying people should share for egotistical reasons? To get the gratification given by the thanking people? And that only people that have something to share should be given the right to grab?
That sounds like selfish sharing. And that's not sharing in my book, it's selling, but instead of money they get thanked. Such people aren't giving stuff for free (you have to thank and share yourself something even if you don't have what to share. Free means it's shared for your enjoyment.)

Re: https://mzchessforum.altervista.org
I don't know about everything else, but i can tell you one thing. Just imagine that new version of SugaR or ShashChess appears, and every user will start to write - "Thank you" or "That's great" or "Much appreciated" etc,won't this create a mess / flood? That’s why administrators added a “Thank you” button to avoid "clogging/flood", call it whatever you like.
This "type" of gratitude was suggested by the users themselves, because very often in order to find something, it was necessary to go back many pages.
So if you think about it, it make sense!
