They can't have been against me... I tried and won my first
two games also.
Some chess servers have ratings that are inflated/deflated versus
other servers. And they upgrade/downgrade your rating more on
some servers than others. On ICC your rating can move 15-17 points
after a single game, while on FICS your rating is more stable.
Personally, I've found FICS, used with my THIEF interface, to be
quite comfortable. I'm an oldie, and try to keep up with the young
ones in 1min games. I don't have much luck, keep getting flagged,
but what the heck, it's fun.

I don't know why nobody speaks about www.owl21.com ...in my opinion it is a VERY GOOD free site....much better than many ....and they have many tournaments daily....
At least you could give it a try and tell your opinion about it...

My first post here. I run a small online chess club which is free to play unlimited games for a year. [ though additional features are via subscription]. I built this because I could not stand some of the other chaos chess clubs with a zillion members all trying to play 1 min blitz games etc we are a quiet peaceful place. Most members age 40 plus.
So , we are all an older crowd, though members kids have also joined and we have a family option too. we have all the usual features and quite a lot more. its somewhat funky.. as I didn't want it ro be too flash.. Anyway, I tend to open the doors wider some months and post on a few forums and then hope I get people who just want some quiet slow paced games of chess.
So I am here for the first time, offering up the option for any who may be interested to join us. This forum seems to be a best kept secret..well it was too me.
