Bugfix..No strength changes.

The "bug fix" , for lack of a better phrase to use, i would like to see fixed is some output while it is thinking. Thinking lines, Kns ,etc. I am sort of baffled as to why he hasnt fixed that. He has to be able to- as the prior version, 4.7a showed all its output.

Best,
That's not a bug, that's a feature. Honestly JOrge, what the heck are you going to do with the output?

Best,
Thinker actually outputs a PV. It does it once at the end of the search. You should be able to see that with Xboard interfaces, like ChessMaster, Winboard and Thinkerboard.

Also, the PV is from the hash table. And, if the first entry on the hash table is not valid, then a shallow search is done (just to satisfy some tournament requirement).

Cheers!

Could it output a PV before moving? It seems the GUIs I use (ChessPartner, Fritz or ShredderClassic) aren't listening when Thinker sends the PV.

I downloaded that 5.1E zip file, extracted it, and ran e-trust on it, and it came out clean.

It must just be a false positive from you AV software, or your machine itself is already infected.

Most probably the later as the infection sticks itself to the new .exe and give the warning by the AV program....

I agree with all those wonderful things said about this engine. actually it is my favorite engine now. but i can't say that it is strong in the endgame. i saw many games of really bad play in the end. but anyway it probably wouldnt matter as much if a tb is used. and anyway, who cares, its the middlegame where it works its magic

I've been readying this comment a lot lately by different members, I wonder how many consider Thinker their top 1 engine. :)

No way dude, I was just trying to bring out the point that out of the top engines Glaurung and Thinker are my favorites. However, I have a fetish for weak engines hence I named few of them. I could beat Glaurung if I get goat to chew off the cord.
