Thank you, gents.

I have only tried Arena 1.1
and it seems working ok.

GUI Summary for testing 64 bit engines:

Arena 1.1, 1.99 beta 4
Chess Assistant (9, I assume)
Zap!Chess GUI x64

More questions:

-- Is there a WinBoard version for x64 systems?
[Jim, have you tried to build an x64 compile
from wb_x sources?]

-- Is there an Axon bench or the like for x64 systems?
32 bit Axon 4 test does not work on x64 systems.
[All 32 bit progs run on x64 as well?]

-- Can other GUIs like ChessPartner, Deep
Shredder 11 be used in x64 systems?

-- Does CB9, Fritz10, Fritz11 or Hiarcs 12 GUI run on x64 systems?

Best,

Best,
Arena 1.1 is the most stable Arena GUI. The latest beta still has many many bugs. They were listed in detail on the old Arena forum (now defunct), so unfortunately I can't list them for you.

Thanks, Graham.

I have used 1.99 beta 4 extensively in my tournaments,
only 32 bit though. I saw x64 tournaments conducted with
1.99 beta 5. I am still undecided which one to employ for
my new tests. In the meantime, we are all waiting for the
final Arena 2.0.

Best,

Addition: I have followed the bug reports in old Arean forum.

And CA8, which is what I'm using.

Initially, I thought not, but CB9, with the latest patch (March 2008 found at website) loads and runs 64-bit UCI engines. I tested 64-bit Rybkas and 64-bit Fruits.

Thank you, Albert.

I'll pre-test all GUIs mentioned here including
CA8 and CB9 with latest March update. It will
take some time, though.

Best to all of you,

Nice ...

... but is it necessary ?

I have used all sorts of 32bits and 64bits engines with 32bits WinboardX under windows XP x64 edition without any problem.

What is the added value of a 64bits winboard ?

Hi Marc,

I do not know whether it is necessary.

I only know that 32 bit engines run 1% faster
on w32 systems than x64 ones.

Hi Jim,

I have played a bit with wb64.

First notes:

Crafty 19.11 x64 1 cpu works ok.

have not tested other engine.

Arasan 10.3 x64 and Arasan 10.3 JA x64 4 cpu work ok.

Crafty 22.0 JA2 x64 2 cpu works ok

Crafty 22.1 JA x64 4 cpu does not work.

I really like features like adjud., eval info etc.
Therefore I'll test wb_x w32 later.

Best,
