Don't know why there are so many engines with older versions, what puprose is that, add to the rating list to make progress comparison? reminds of Igor's Infinite Loop tests.

Couple of reasons. I'd like to get all past 250 games plus I'm trying to balance out the average opponent rating of some of those older versions.
It's probably useful to tie in old and new to a degree also I'd imagine.

Sounds reasonable, I totally hate testing out older versions of particular engine unless the newer one has bugs or plays worser or..., but it's just me. :)

Yes and it stands a good chance of taking out "The Matacz Memoirs" tournament also, judging from the standings a third of the way through.
