No, this one is due to the bug I was alluding to above and entirely BikJump's fault. This has been fixed in version v2.01 (identical to v2.0 except the bug fix).

It is embarrassing to do a major rewrite of mailbox into bitboard without any apparent errors, only to be bitten by a missing check bit in the root (and even that due to an impulsive and unnecessary last-minute optimization).
I have great appreciation for Patrick's testing and always look forward to his first rating. Hopefully some of the book problems can be fixed, so that all engines benefit in the end.

Unfortunately this bug appears with several engines under the Arena GUI and of course it's not Patrick's fault,but....all the games in the pgn file must be checked for very bad opening lines, errors, etc.,before publishing the rating of the tested engine....that was my point....

Hi Wael Deeb,
I'm from Romania and my english is not good.
In the opinion of many computerfans the best book authors are:
Jeroen Noomen,Harry Schnapp and Sedat Canbaz.
I'm not a friend of Patrick Buchmann and I have not analysed the
150.000 games played so far with the HS-Book.abk.
No book is 100% perfect and even your own books had a lot of very bad
and loosing opening lines. It is not respectful to the author to fish out a
line and sweeping to criticize!.
Regards,
Theodor Pintilie

Hi,
As I expected,I am missunderstood....
First of all,we are exclusively talking here about .abk opening books and I can asure you that the best opening book is yet to be released....
What opening books of mine are you talking about,I haven't release an opening book more than 2 years now :!: :?:
My latest developement is iDeeb_Script.abk and with this book I've played more than 2000 games and I didn't see a single bad opening line, not even one :!: I keep this opening book private for now, only a few friends of mine can use it....
Again,I am not seeking errors of the other opening books makers,it's just that Patrick didn't answer my question which was not provocative by the,I realy didn't know which opening book he's using....so I found the answer for myself and now the big question:

Do accept as chess engines freak,as a tester or as an engine author results based on such games :!: :?:

That was my point, nothing more, nothing less,I didn't mention names nor opening books,I just don't accept such ratings based on a wrong testing methods,it's discouraging for the chess engine author to say the least....

Again, you don't have my latest opening book under Arena GUI and most probably you won't,I'll keep it private....

The best opening book author issue is so relative by the way,it's not a constant so your estimation with certin names mentioned is irrelevant to say the least....

Regards,
Dr.D

Gentlemen, please :-)

This is the second time a simple question I post spins out of control (my question and attempt to standardize an SMP option for the UCI protocol being the first one). I simply wanted to know if known drawn endings should be adjudicated and I got my answer (not until a formally drawn situation).

I agree it would be really nice to filter out bad opening lines (and that is a fair point to make), but I also appreciate the enormity of such a task. As a chess engine implementor I am just really happy people like Graham Banks, Patrick Buchmann, Olivier Deville, Leo Dijksman, and N. Swaminathan are willing to spend time testing and running tournaments. If they can have a look at the games and report errors, that is of course very nice, but since they make the games available I also think it is more than reasonable if they expect engine authors to do the verification themselves.

Definitely what I wanted to say in the first place but I must admit that it's much harder to do that when you play a lot of blitz games....It's much easier to me as I play at long time controls....never the less, these games should be eliminated from the pgn for more accurate rating 8-)

Creating a decent opening book for Arena is a self -torture regards,
Dr.D
