Sorry to disagree, but I haven't seen a really good looking WinBoard screen yet. It is a matter of taste; we have a saying: You cannot discuss about taste.

There is indeed no accounting for tastes, but what you say seems simply wrong:
The only wood I see here is WinBoard, all Arena pics just show plain bichromatic boards of the type that WinBoard used in the seventies. And the piece symbols in your favorite are identically the same as the WinBoard built-ins...

Both are cool, i can't say that one is better than the other.
With Winboard though i can play so many variants so i prefer it better.
