A PS: (for you Matthias)- In your entire life- have you ever known a more chess workaholic who doesnt do it for his benefit- a more diplomatic person- a person who is more concerned of others feelings- and lastly more of a gentleman? If you have- please direct me to him.

Graham has a lot of merits in the CCC and if he is banned here and now, this forum will lose many important members.
If a CTF issue can justify a ban in CCC, I may withdraw from the CCC or retire from forum chess entirely.
Zach says a solution is being sought for and I hope CCC mods will jointly accomplish it fast.

Best,
Matthias.

Yes ... CTF is the dark side of talkchess ... it should have nothing to do with CCC and any ban there should not affect the other forums. Many people with skewed or controversial views on some issues still have plenty to offer when it comes to computer chess. There is a good reason CTF is only viewable to CCC members with a password requirement for guest viewers ... and I think similarly it should be insulated from CCC.

Using the current software if you are banned from forum A, then automatically you are banned from forums B,C,D,E, etc.

It is an unintended consequence of the way that the software operates.

I believe that they are trying to create a work-around so this will not be a problem.
Ahaa, i already thought something like that must be the case.
Time for a workaround, followed by architectural change.
Anyway, let's get Graham back here as soon as possible.
One might occasionally disagree with him, but he is a true computerchess fanboi

I don't think the two forums are really that distinct.

The charter is essentially the same in both, except that in CCC one must talk about computer chess, while in CTF one can talk about anything he/she wants. Rules in the CTF charter are only a subset of the rules in the CCC charter, which means that if one breaks a rule in CTF, he breaks a rule that also exists in CCC.
Furthermore, the two forums have a large common audience, which means that if A makes personal attacks against B in one forum, and he is banned from it, he can bring the subject over to the other forum, with the same people reading.
Personally I am against all moderation, perhaps with the exception of moderating against commercial advertising and spamming. But this is the way things have worked here for years: there are rules and people occasionally get banned for breaking them.

I don't see any problem

The moderators would appreciate it if this topic was not brought up in CCC or its subfora. I see this entirely as a CTF issue. Yes, Graham was banned in the CCC. This is an unfortunate side effect. The CCC mods had nothing to do with this decision though, in fact we are discussing the issue and trying to work out a solution so that he can post here.

Zach
Workaround based on honor code:
He is allowed to post in CCC, provided he promises not to post in CTF. First off topic message in CCC or any other message in CTF, would trigger the broader ban. Why can't we behave like gentlemen?

Miguel
PS: I have no idea why he was banned because I try to stay away from all these quarrels. I am kind of shocked he was banned. He is a positive contributor.

I am totaly shocked by the ban of my close friend Graham
Back in the days when I was banned frequently and Graham was a moderator,I recieved every time a mail from him saying that he's sorry, but he was forced to proceed this action, can you believe that :!: :?:
Graham is a positive person and a decent personality, add the fact that he's a close friend,I am against this unfair ban....
The world is going totaly nuts regards,

I do not agree with Zach that this is not a CCC issue. It is a very important CCC issue when someone outside of CCC's forum can ban someone from CCC. If I were a moderator of CCC I would not only reinstate Graham but I would let the moderators of CTF that I would no longer stand for them banning onyone without talking it over with the rest of us first. It after that they did not agree then I would call for a special election to replace those mods if possible. It was neven the intention of anyone to give that much power to one group of people. They were not elected to run CCC and therefore should not be able to do anything that affects the members over here. It is never to late to correct mistakes.

By "CTF issue" I meant all the stuff about leaked emails and corruption and similar crap.

Graham being banned is a CCC issue, the events causing it were not.

Possibly you could help me here on that , Zach. I talked to Sam Hull and told him the easiest way to handle this was to let Graham post in CCC again, with the proviso that he promise not to post in CTF for whatever hell the length of that ban would be. And tell the CTF mods to keep their damn fingers off the button or hit the road. Sam said that was the best idea- and he had proposed it to the moderators on both forums, and they couldnt come to an agreement on it. WHO BALKED- WOULDNT AGREE- AND WHY. I posed this to the mods on CTF- and they all ran like scared rabbits.

The CCC mods were never asked this question.
