I guess that this is what happens when authors test the engine only in test suites and not in games as I suggested in the programming forum.
You get engines that are very strong but cannot play chess
First time I see Uri actually laughing out loud.
I'm sure the author will make a corrected new version that can play games. Someone needs to alert him about this bug, or maybe he knows this.

If someone wants to add the functionality, here is a version that will compile with MS Visual C++, provided that you have the pthreads library and zlib:

It seems to be lacking any notion of time control. I guess that he simply has not written it yet.

The author just released the 4th version of the engine:
Umko 0.4:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/umko/files/
I hope it does play games now.

Btw,the latest Umko v0.4 does not play under Fritz12GUI too:
Round: 1; Umko 0.4 caused an exception, game stopped.
I will report these error messages to the Author and i hope the problem will be fixed in a short time !

Hm, it runs fine here, stronger than BBChess, but I compiled it for Linux here.

Thanks.. now its with Stockfish-162s-64dc after installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 (4.7mb)
Its interesting to note with the previous one (Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x64) 4.1mb) Stockfish-162s-64dc did not want to play ?!
But,the problem continues with Umko 0.4 and the engine still does not want to play...
Best,
Sedat
