It can be any engine which has the parameter to adjust its play strength to certain Elo.

With the small constraint that it simply doesn't work in "any engine" offering that feature. That has already been written in this thread, but thank you for just claiming the opposite.

And to start crafty with a particular .rc file is just "C:> crafty.exe [file.rc]" ?

(assuming you're in the right directory of course...)

Javascript chess engines are pretty competitive with humans around 1500 ELO. Give this a try http://forwardcoding.com/projects/ajaxchess/chess.html.

Martin,

If you look here there are a range of UCI engines in the 1500 to 1900 elo range with links to where you can download them:

Also I can recommend the Tarrasch "toy" engine v.0.905 which is rated at 1719 elo and can be downloaded from here:

All,

Regarding Tarrasch Toy engine - I see there is now a version 0.906 rated at 1800 elo which I didn't realsise. The download link on the page I posted seems to be broken.

Does anyone have this engine or an alternative download link as I would to get it for my engine testing, as the version 0.905 was great fun to play with ?

Thanks,

Mark

What if I have 3 different .rc files, depending on my mood...
How do I pick the one I want?
