(Another problem I have is that I only see half the menus. For instance, in edit position I only see the black options. I'm using Fedora 13, though, with who know what software environment. I doubt anyone can help if they cannot reproduce it.)
This is standard XBoard behavior, not specifically related to this version:

XBoard derives the variant from the event tag. I guess W 035 is the name some ICS use to indicate wild 35. Best change the event tag, or copy the game without event tag, when the event tag contains a confusing name.

As to the piece menus: the right button is for the black pieces, the middle button for the white pieces.

This type of thing crops up far too often, though. I certainly can't change the tags at chessgames.com. It's a bit of a pain to do it manually all the time.

Thanks. I see that "xterm" is a program I need for the help files. I never though about what that error might mean before.
