If you want a cheap Mac then think Hackintosh; I got a great machine running for £450 (Core i5 3570K and 16GB 1600MHz RAM) which I use as a file server and my step-daughter uses for World-of-Warcraft

Mac OS X is more than just the kernel. It contains hundreds of closed-source frameworks and utilities and would be impossible to replicate.
