It was a mistake I made in my program and I've changed it since. I just wanted to point out that it's an easy to make mistake. I guess I wasn't very clear exactly what I meant in my first post.
By the way Steve, I'm a big fan of Monarch. I used to play against it a lot with the earlier versions of my engine. It's about 2525 elo today, but progressing slowly (about 65 elo in the last two years). I guess it will be no match for Maverick in a couple of months, or is it already stronger?
It's good to hear Monarch was of value. I think its main point of value is that it's quite stable and weak. This makes it a good punch-bag for aspiring engines.
What's your engine called? Is it publicly available?
Maverick's progress has slowed due to work. I need to add king safety knowledge and generally improve the evaluation before I unleash selectivity. Hopefully I'll have some time over Christmas!
Sorry I couldn't reply yesterday, we had the first winter storm for the season and the power went out right after I sat down by the computer. I live in a house in the woods and when it gets dark here, it gets dark. I had to get some wood from the woodshed, but couldn't find a flashlight, so I had to use an old oil lantern. It was snowing heavily, and I stayed out a couple extra minutes to take it all in. I'm 45 now, but the first snow of the season is still special. Well, needless to say, the power came back on as soon as I had a fire going.
Anyway, my engine is called 'Thresher' from that quote in the Bible about separating the wheat from the chaff (the good from the bad). But I guess most people will just think of an old, rusty machine left in a field somewhere, so I'm thinking about renaming it.
I have some ideas on how to improve move ordering I'm trying right now. When that fails, as it most likely will, and when I've come up with a new name I will make it available for download.
I'm looking forward to see the next version of Maverick. I hope you find some time to work on it during the holidays.

This forum really needs to get a facebook alike Like button.
Do you actually have DSL or cable there in the woods?
