That would be sad, this is the only engine I found that you can spar in technical endgames (Dragon in MCTS mode). It is worth it just for this feature. Other engines would give away pawns if they see all moves being lost.

Seriously, I think all he is saying is that improvements are hard to come by and three was the goal for subscribing. Chill folks.

My question is, with all these top engines, if the previous version is just 15 or 20 Elo weaker, why do most people who are NOT top GMs are constantly upgrading ? The most interesting things to look for are extra features besides a small Elo gain. extra features such as Dragon 3.1 and 3.2 also have a user-settable minimum time per move when using the LimitStrength option, and allow for Elo setting up to 3499 (3500 means full strength), also being capable of giving Knight Odds to top GM and even Rook to Masters

Well, I think many of these are 'stockfish' derivatives or otherwise free. So, there is no reason not to try a newer version.Chessqueen wrote: ↑Tue Dec 20, 2022 1:11 amCornfedForever wrote: ↑Tue Dec 20, 2022 12:50 amSeriously, I think all he is saying is that improvements are hard to come by and three was the goal for subscribing. Those options you mention - most people really do not use them, but yes, that is a selling point for some and why you see it in Dragon. The problem there...there is only so much they can do concerning 'regular chess'. This because an engine is just an engine...and 'strong' is 'strong'...and NNUE sort of levels the playing field at the top.
Essentially, engines are at a 'dead end' concerning strength, especially concerning regular chess. Heresy (here), I know; but I believe it. Take any strong engine and put it in a multi-purpose GUI and then you actually have something. That's been 'the future' for a while now and we see it more and more.
