My point was, can you trust that his hardware really is what it seems? Maybe there's another reason he's not winning many games...it could be a bog standard machine.

No, the hardware (kns) is shown in the chat. The engine too. At that time he also offered his engine in the ChessBase Cloud, and I tested it myself. Why doesn't he win? Because everyone on PlayChess plays with extremely good books. And: From a certain search depth of Stockfish, it almost doesn't matter whether you only have 10.000 kns or 1 million kns.

These things can be faked though.

Only a complete idiot would build a HPC platform for chess based upon Cascade Lake, when Genoa has a clearly higher performance to cost ratio.
Things like this happen a lot on cloud rental at chessbase with fake NPS etc.

If it's available to rent I might have way to test it.

I don't think it's fake. It's easy to make a draw on PlayChess. Getting out of the book and into the endgame is no longer a problem. The book is more important than the hardware.

I prefer playing fun games on PlayChess now, it's more interesting. With my new Universal Extreme book I am currently testing very weak lines like 1.g4 and 1.b4. It will only become very critical after 1. g4. Anything else weak should be enough for a draw. I will report about the test here:

Opening book?
1) When MonsterPC was allowed to enter game (which move # ? ). Was it Ply 28?
2) When Raspberry was allowed to enter game (which move # ? ) Was it Ply 54?

Was it already easy-dead-draw after any side was allowed to start on engines?
