Sorry Albert-
Rybka is history....the author a cheater.
please let's give any chess programmer:
- a 'copy' of a strong open source program as starting point
-oodles of cash for development costs
-dedicated support of a large international corporation
-top notch opening book writers
-Larry Kaufman or some other tech dedicated GM
-a bevy of dedicated beta testers
- a slew of high end multicore systems on which to test
etc.
might not such a large ELO advance occur?
or is Vas (the genius) the only person on Earth capable of such?
Vas took the initiative, cheated, didn't get caught (until now), obtained generous financial support and help, and evaded detection for years...
and he did it long enough to make great progress.
but that's the complete extent of his legacy:
he exhibited exceptional cunning and skill, provided a robust ELO improvement by fooling all (including you) and stealing the opportunity for recognition and financial reward.
i.e. I believe many programmers could have had similar success give the same set of circumstances...
an illegal big improvement does not a legitimate program make...
really sad part of the debacle...so many 'diehard' Rybka fans remain like: yourself, Graham Banks, GTS, etc.
are so willing to go down with the ship (why? because your reputation is staked on it...?)
pitiful really...
