Hi Jon,

I wanted to tell this several times already but I forgot.

The Fritz GUI does not recognize SlowChess which means that I can't install it unless I create and edit the Fritz engine file manually. This is probably due to Slow being WB and UCI at the same time but it may also be caused by some UCI implementation problem.

You have to do it manually, by making the .uci using a text editor. That worked for me, as I had the same problem. Here is an example from my laptop.

Code: Select all

[ENGINE]
Name=SlowChessBlitz
Author=Jonathan Kreuzer
Filename=D:\ChessEngines\SlowChess-2.7\slow64-avx.exe

[OPTIONS]
Threads=8
SyzygyPath=D:\SyzygyBases\DTZ_7;D:\SyzygyBases\WDL_7;D:\SyzygyBases\DTZ_6;D:\SyzygyBases\WDL_6;D:\SyzygyBases\DTZ_345;D:\SyzygyBases\WDL_345
Make sure to name the file with the same name that is in the name field and give it a .uci extension.

Thanks. Maybe I was not clear, I have been using Slow under Fritz for years.

I'm not sure what the cause would be. I think Fritz GUI is commercial only right, so no way for me to test it out? I'm not sure what it's doing differently than other GUIs.

No problems here with the avx2 compile and Fritz14 as well as with Fritz17 at Win10 regards

https://www.3dkingdoms.com/chess/slow.htm
  • Standard chess is improved by about +35 Elo compared to 2.6.(10000 bullet game gauntlet against similar strength engines, 8-move book.)
  • FRC play is improved by +115 Elo (in a 3840-game bullet match against 2.6 )

    If you want to read in more detail about changes this version, check this thread : http://talkchess.com/forum3/viewtopic.p ... 92#p902881
It is on my list for FRC testing :)

You are right. I could install it under Fritz 13 without problems. ChessBase has broken the UCI support in the meantime, it seems.

You got me wrong, Gabor, at my Ryzen it does work with F14 as well as with F17 both.

Re: SlowChess Blitz Classic 2.8

Slow Chess 2.8 is released.
Download on the Slow Chess Webpage

It scored +30 Elo to Slow 2.7 in a 12000 game gauntlet against similar strength engines (30s + .3s)
I expect rating list Elo difference will be somewhat less depending on conditions. (Also I keep making it slower since my test PCs are fast AVX2)

Main changes:
  • More neural net training.
  • Updated endgame nets. (Training, more first layer weights, less second, more forced symmetry.)
  • Larger general net.
  • Some search tweaking but probably only a few elo
I will compile a linux version on weekend.

This time I did try to wait for release and make more improvements, but just ended up not releasing for 3 weeks and not making clear strength progress or working on any of the extras I wanted to. I'm sorta limited in time to spend and computing power, so am happy to just keep making some progress.
