Version 0.49 beta released

Post by phhnguyen »

Version 0.49 beta released

Fixed bugs:
* Changing overall-ponder mode, engines’ names didn’t affect immediately (but after reloading BSG)
* Lichess bots were stopped after a few games because of incorrect concurrency
* Wheel scroll was too fast/sensitive
* Analysis may crash in some systems

Some minor bug fixes, some small improvements/adjustments; ECA is temporarily turned off

New features:
* Analysis on the fly: the Analysis button on the toolbar is changed to run that function thus now the user can quickly and conveniently to analyze any position he wants just by a click. If he wants to analyze whole games and/or change engines, he may use functions from Analyse menu
* Detect and display corrupted games on tournaments
* Image viewer: there are some panels to show images. They can show and play animated GIFs too
* Graph for tbhits

Notes:
* Detect and display corrupted games in tournaments: it checks data loaded from files, performs when loading tournaments. Since those (corrupted) games have been played already, the corrupted ones don’t affect tournament results, scores, Elo of engines. Users may ignore or replay those games. However, users should take an eye on those tournaments, especially for huge tournaments since it may be a sign of serious corrupted data. They may verify and check backup files. BSG auto-creates multi backup files in the sub-folder tourbk (in the configuration folder)
* Image viewer: This feature is totally for decoration and may be helpful when users get bored with normal chess screens and/or for streaming. It’s much better than use other programs to show images over BSG since they may take more space, be messy and hide some information. If users still want a kind of pop up images, just set some panels to be floating
* ECA is temporarily turned off since we need more time to invest in it, make it be safer and more convenient to use

Eduard wrote: Sun Aug 22, 2021 3:44 am I had this problem on my laptop too. I had to download "MSVCP140_1.dll" from the internet.
I downloaded it, placed it in C:\Windows\System32 and is still not working
Copy MSVCP140_1.dll into the main folder of Banksia.
I have just added that DLL into the Banksia folder. Hope it is OK.
Thanks, it is working Now, I do have a question, where and how do I install any engine ?

Hi Pham!
BSG 0.49 doesn't start on Windows 11 ARM64 (0.48 is OK) I have dowloaded MSVCP140_1.dll but there is already a newer version in C:\Windows\System32. What next? :)

Thank you, Alex

PS: Also BSG 0.48 is really slow when it opens.

Yes, BSG can create a tournament with a given FEN. Just remove castling field of that FEN.

If you want a tournament with multi openings, you may use an EPD opening book (books of FENs - BSG supports those books). Find a book and use any text editor to remove all castling fields of FENs on that book and you can start.

From 0.49, BSG has just added the library MSVCP140_1.dll into its folder. Can you remove that file from BSG’s folder and try? Thanks

Thanks for your continued work on Banksia. I noticed a possible enhancement/bug.
Winboard engines (crafty, mine in xboard mode) do not show time information in the the "engine info" while uci engines do. (linux v49)

Thanks for your great work with the GUI. The Lichess bot works pretty well now.

There is still sometimes the problem that Banksia thinks there is still a game, but this was actually aborted or ended because the opponent had no more time, in this case, there is an entry with empty cells in the "Playing" tab. But this problem is not so bad.

The most annoying thing is that Banksia occasionally thinks it has won a game on time, although this is not the case. In this case the GUI simply stops playing because it thinks the game is over, in reality you lose on time (not infrequently in completely won positions) because the GUI does not continue playing. This happens when the opponent has let his clock run down very much, but has not yet reached 0:00.

Let me know if I can help with more information or data regarding the bugs. :)

I have several questions about BanksiaGUI version 0.48 beta, which I just downloaded and started to use:

1. I was unable to set the hashtable size to more than 4000 MB. How do I set larger hashtable sizes?

2. What does "bubble" mean on several panes? And how do I remove the "chessdb.cn" URL from the preferences/eg/tb pane?

3. I attempted to use FILE->OPEN to open several PGN files, and it failed on each. Does Banksia handle non-trivial PGN (i.e., with many deeply nested variations, and with non-standard start positions?)
