Black has made some inaccurate moves, enough to say that I would be close to winning if I got back my handicapped rook.
i thought this was an interesting comment so i fired up that 2700 PC engine i own ..(the one which i have played all of the R odds games against) and gave White the R back on a1

HYPOTHETICAL Position after 28.Bc4
BLACK TO MOVE

[d]r2r2k1/p1p1np1p/1p4p1/2q5/2Bp1BR1/1Q5P/P4P1K/R7 b - - 0 1

in this hypothetical position Black is ahead material by +1
n+4p v BB
and yet the engine (after 3 minutes of pondering) considers White ahead returning an eval of +.43

removing the R and restoring the position to the current position.. it considers Black Ahead by 5.72 ..pretty much the R White gave as odds

Connie will be moving around the Dinner Hour later Today Regards

I didn't have a very weak engine on my PC so I put Houdini 1.03a vs comet in the position after Bc4. Houdini wins most of the games on 4' + 2 " and loses none white just before where Connie offered queen exchange Houdini accepted the trade and lost almost all games :). I don't know the rating of comet but it seems after Bc4 there are some chances for white, considering that black is winning and so will never repeat positions for ex (until too late). I don't know how strong is Connie with 3 min per move compared to that time control so it's just for fun . And of course Houdini tries to play the best moves not the most tricky ones :)

and that is EXACTLY the issue in this game
Larry is not only an OTB GM but also highly knowledgeable when it comes to the old dedicated computers not to mention modern PC engines
so he is making moves that he hopes will cause Connie to stumble and it could very well succeed(and has already to some extent)
i still say we need to add a few hundred ELO to Larrys rating when it comes to a game like this
something fair..not overly dramatic
my guess is that for a match like this.. Larry's combined knowledge of engines (past and present)and playing strength brings him at or even above the Super GM level ..perhaps 2850+ ish
:P

The king is still on h2, maybe you can retry with the rook on a1 again? I think it's winning with the rook on a1 whatever the position of the king anyway :).

Now Connie will play Nd5 maybe, don't think she will play d3 here ...

Oups, sorry last one :) In the diagram with the rook on a1 it's white to play but it should be black's turn :).

With white to play only +0.40?

it would be helpful if you could give me all of the corrections at the same time
:P

my 2700 Engine ..with Black to play...scores the position +.43 for White

It's an easy move to find, I suspect the Connie will play Nd5 as well. Not sure what's best for White after that.

Unless the Connie makes either one or two stupid moves or a series of weak moves I don't see how Larry will draw let alone win. I hope the Connie doesn't play Nd5 as it's solid as it is obvious.
