In 1987, a friend of mine used to play the King's Gambit as white against me. After a few weeks of loosing to him, he admited he had
studied the opening well. So, I grabbed my copies of MCO and Chess Openings: Theory and Practive and found the Faulkbeer Counter Gambit.
I memorized every line. The next night we played numerous games and he lost every game. He never played the King's Gambit
against me again.

My favorite tactic as black was the Latvian for the same reason (I used to play the king's gambit all the time as well). 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 f5 and it is a sort of king's gambit with colors reversed, one tempo down. If white doesn't know what he is doing, trouble arises very soon.

Ruy lopez. Kings gambit. Guioco Piano. Scotch. Ponzoni. Goring Gambit and others. All depends on the kind of opening you like. I prefer a tactical slugfest when I am playing myself, and generally get it with 1. ... e5. If you play 1. c5 you can get into 2. c4 and such closed systems that are boring (to me).
Ah - the good old Ponziani. A great option for those who hate playing against a Ruy Lopez!

Graham,
You have it backwards. White plays the Ruy Lopez with 3 Bb5, not Black. Instead, Black is playing the Spanish Game to which White's 3rd move options include the Ponziani and Ruy Lopez.

I play the Ponziani as White because I hate playing against the Ruy Lopez.

The Ruy Lopez is started by white's 3rd move 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5, so it is a White Opening Line. So you must mean you hate playing against the various defenses to the Ruy Lopez. Either that or you just hate playing the Ruy Lopez period.

Both - the Ruy Lopez bores me to tears.
But the point that Ted and I made is that your posts made no sense. It's impossible for White to play against the Ruy Lopez since it's a White line.
