When you say, '3-4-5 piece tablebases', These are simply made available to the engines, that use them, right?

Thanks again for these tournaments!

Hi David,

yes, the tablebases are available for the engines that use them. However, the GUI is set to automatically adjudicate any tablebase positions with 5 pieces or less, and this applies to all games.

Cheers,
Graham.
Hi Graham,

Just running a tournament with Arena 2.0.1.
How does Arena adj. those positions?

I mean, which switches should I turn on, etc.

TIA,

Best,
Arena and Shredder GUIs don't have this option which is why I don't like using them.
I get sick of seeing KR v KR positions play out to 50 move draws under those GUIs - waste of computer time.

Cheers,
Graham.

Completely agree with you like the positions in KBP v KB.
Arena should have this option, ie tb adj.

Plus: KBPPP v KBPP like positions :
I know that those positions are draw by all means.
Bishops are dancing on the board up to 250 moves.

A solution for this could be:
adj as draw after 40 moves with 0.00 evaluation.

Thanks Graham,

I wondered:

If Xpdnt happens to be weak in these endings, could the tablebases lend it some strength? [if your tournament manager adjudicated games]

I guess they can; but, probably not that much.

Thanks again.

Doesn't affect things much at all, truth be told. Just saves computer time.
I enjoy running these tournaments. Besides, you're the one who's done the hard work programming an engine that we can all use, so the thanks should primarily be going to you. :)
