Hi !

1."If you want to know your rights, read the license agreement that you probably clicked on without reading."
You are right, but only 50 % !
The file with licence exists in near all softwares I have bought along the time !
But nobody give me back the money - at least here - if I'm not satisfied.
And nobody give me the right to read this file before purchasing.
Best for us the license file to be displayed on the presentation page of every new software -here on Internet. Every customers will be able to read about the numerous rights ( ) supplied by commercial law. Commercial law being valid in some countries but not in all.

2."You will likely find that you have nearly no rights."
Here you are 100% right ! That's because the merchants are well organised. The opposite for customers.

Silvian

Of course they do - just ask to see it before you purchase.

Hi Harvey !

Basically you are right ! But M31 Andromeda Galaxy and M63 Sunflower Galaxy being in UE ( ) the customs are in hard opposition !
Even if Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition ( or Hiarcs 12 UCI  ) are the same !
And not only with softwares !

Regards,
Silvian

PS: I remember with pleasure our conversation-years ago- on an extraterrestrial site ( ) when you convinced me to buy Hiarcs 10 ! Do you remember ? About Armadillo protection, about the citizenship of somebody born somewhere....................Was a pleasure !

CRoberson wrote:On the subject of ChessMaster 11. IMHO and experience (being a software developer), low quality is exactly what you get when you ship
development out to 3rd world countries for a price cut.

Outsourcing development for cheap labor is, in part, a direct result of all the cloning and such.

There was a time when commercial chess programs sold in volume. Volume sales help to keep prices down and development going.
When the number of sales drops, you can cut costs which can lead to lower quality or you can cut the product.

Why have volume sales dropped? They are competing with free programs that are 2800+. IMHO, a binary for such programs should not
be free. Also, they are competing with all the software pirating practices that go on.

On Rybka 3. I have it. Bought it about 7 months ago (the single processor version). I have not noticed any bugs.

Guys, you can't continue having high end quality commercial software and allow software piracy to continue. Look at the CPU
industry; it is still going strong with high quality and good pricing. Why? Nobody is cheating that industry.
you havent noticed any bugs in rybka?? oh please, do me a favour, do you also assign a score of +10 to a drawn position?
Really, I use it regularly for analysis and have not seen a drawn position with a score of 10. Such a position must not occur often.
If it did Rybka wouldn't be rated as high as it is.

Post the position here. I'd like to test it with my copy.
the + 10 score i mentioned was in an engine tourney game that i recently deleted to make room for other tourney data but i will try and dig it out of my recycle box. but i can assure you such positions arise frequently. if you havent noticed any bugs on rybka 3 it is because you either dont look properly or you dont have a good grasp of chess. i have the mp version of r3 and regularly notice the blind bishop bug (perhaps the most well known), and it is also widely known that r3 plays a pretty bad end game. maybe it is still rated as high as it is because there are at least 3 recent engines that are far stronger that do not appear on official lists thereby inflating rybkas relative strength...why? because the rybka author says so. if you want a complete list of rybka bugs maybe visit the rybka forum. oh, and there is also the none existent persistant hash bug. these are not my personal opinions, they are facts, the same facts that have annoyed the rybka customers who havent received any updates or bug fixes in the last 18months, and if the ippolit chain of engines are based on rybka after all it only goes to show how many improvements could have been made to rybka 3 but werent.
